An activity for tracing the musical roots/history of your family. Take some time to explore your musical past!
What You'll Need:
- Notepad, or piece of paper
- Pencil
**Ask for, and make sure you have permission before using a telephone to call relatives.**
Interview family members asking them if they play, or know of family members who play, or have played a musical instrument. Do they still play? Do they play more than one musical instrument? How many? Which instruments? Record what you learn with your pencil and paper. Who were the family singers? Has anyone ever played the kazoo? Was a relative in a band? Or have a band? You never know, maybe your Grammy's Grammy bought a piano from a traveling salesman, or by mail order catalogue. Maybe your Great Uncle played with Don Messer! Once you start asking questions, you'll probably find out so much more about your family than just its musical history!
